18 Free Or Cheap Things To Do In Paris


There's a misconception among people that visiting the beautiful city of Paris can't be done on a budget. However, even though it's the world centre for fashion and designer boutiques, Paris doesn't have to be expensive!

Here's a guide for twenty cheap (or even free!) things to do in Paris, France:

1. Arc De Triomphe 
Free to look at or pay 8 to climb to the top. Free if you're under 25 and live in the EU.


2. Champs-Élysées 
Take a stroll and window shop down one of Paris' most famous avenues.

3. Trocadero Gardens & Champ de Mars 
Have a picnic in the gardens surrounding the Eiffel Tower.

4. River Seine 
Take a walk along the river's banks.

5. Notre Dame Cathedral 
Visits are completely free to the public.

6. The Louvre 
Go and see the Mona Lisa and other pieces of artwork. Free to enter if you're under 25 and live in the EU or a ticket is 15 per adult.

7. Eat crepes
Savoury or sweet, find a cafe to relax in for a few hours.

8. Luxembourg Gardens 
These gardens are so picturesque and well worth a visit. The grounds are free to enter and the perfect place to people-watch.

9. Find a love lock bridge 
Although the Ponte de Arts bridge has recently had all of its locks removed, there are still other love lock bridges scattered around the city, including Pont de l'Archevêché.

10. Shakespeare & Company Bookshop 
The most famous bookshop in Paris.

11. See the Eiffel Tower lights
Although it's not free to climb up the Eiffel Tower, it doesn't cost a penny to admire it from afar. Find a spot to watch it light up at 10pm and 11pm.

12. Canal St. Martin 
Take a stroll and a picnic to escape the crowds.

13. Eat sandwiches 
Not quite free but far cheaper than eating out at a restaurant. Buy some sandwiches or a fresh baguette from a nearby shop and eat by the River Seine.



12. Sacre-Coeur Basilica 
It's free to enter or pay a little to go up inside the dome.

13. Centre Pompidou 
Go and view the modern art, and the building itself is pretty impressive from the outside. Tickets are free for people aged under 25 living in the EU.

14. Saint Chapelle 
Head straight up to the first floor, the stained glass truly is breathtaking.

15. Ile De La Cite
Stroll through the market which is full of small shops and stalls.

16. Pere Lachaise Cemetery
The largest cemetery in Paris and home to Oscar Wilde's grave.

17. Go up the Eiffel Tower - Either pre-book tickets online beforehand or prepare to queue. If you don't want to do either, go up at 11pm and you'll only spend about 15 minutes waiting.

18. Eat croissants
A given for a weekend in Paris.
